Could 'Awesome' Be a Spy?

I just want to say that although I like Chuck, I am not a HUGE fan. And secondly, I am usually the last person to pick up any subtle hints. However, I think this may be a possibility. The following re-counts of Chuck are all from memory, so things may be out of order.

Last night I went to watch episode 3 & 4 of Chuck with Mark. He had already seen episode 3 and says to me, "This episode explains a lot about Awesome", and my quick reply was, "Is Awesome a Spy?". He just looked at me and we watched the episode.

The episode starts with Awesome and Ellie making out in the cupboard, on their first day as interns at the hospital, without knowing each other. This makes me think that he was told to do it, so he could get closer to her father.

He gets called not once, but twice to work on a very special patient, the Premiere. I wouldn't be surprised if we see the Premiere again, possibly with something that may have been planted in him.

At the party, Awesome is talking to Chuck about how hard it must be to pretend you are in love with someone. I think this conversation was actually more about himself then Chuck.

When Casey tries to save the Premiere, Awesome jumps Casey and makes the comment that he knew what he was doing, then looked directly at the guy with the needle. Possibly, who Awesome is working for, could want the Premiere dead.

Awesome kept pushing Chuck about the 'secret place' and was finally shown where the 'secret place' is. This will be big information to share with his handler.

As well, he is extremely fit and we learned speaks multiple languages.

And, can a surgeon really be as dense as Awesome is portrayed to be?

In episode 4, Awesome is taken through a CIA ordeal. I think he was purposely planted there to get more information in to the workings of the CIA. There was the comment made about Awesome & Chuck, "One looks like a spy, and one looks like Chuck." I think that line has more meaning to it.

My guess is over the next few episodes our focus will probably be re-focused elsewhere, away from Awesome. But I wouldn't be surprised we see more involvement of Awesome closer to the end of the season.

So, once again, this is just my take on the episode. As mentioned before, I am not Chuck's #1 fan. I am a wife of a fan, that enjoys the show.

  2. Josh Schwartz and Chris Fedak (creators of the show), said during interviews, that Awesome was intially meant to be a Russian spy that would be gone by the end of season 1. However, the response to the character was so positive they decided they had to keep him around.

There is always the possibility that they've decided to make him a spy after all, but I'm doubtful.

Interesting theory though, you definitely saw something different in the ep than what I saw!
